What is Craniosacral Therapy?

This powerful form of treatment is increasingly popular in Holistic Healthcare. It often appeals to clients due to the comprehensive range of its therapeutic effects and its ability to resolve issues that are not helped by other means, such as chronic pain as well as physical and emotional illnesses.

Its aim is to help balance the body to promote health. A practitioner uses their hands to ‘listen’ to the rhythms of the body and sense where there might be any areas of illness or tightness. This can then be worked on with the clients help to move towards a healthier state of body and mind.

Craniosacral Therapy’s principal purpose is to establish a strong underlying vitality and a free flow of this vitality throughout the body. It can also release tensions and restrictions so that symptoms, conditions and their underlying causes can be resolved.

What does Craniosacral Therapy session typically involve?

Craniosacral treatment is most often carried out with the patient lying down, fully clothed, in a quiet and peaceful environment.

Treatment involves a very gentle touch of the practitioner’s hands. This light contact may be taken up on the head, the tailbone, the feet, the trunk, or any other part of the body as appropriate.

Treatment is generally experienced as a profound relaxation which may pervade the whole person, physically, mentally and emotionally, often accompanied by a feeling of lightness and ease. This gentle approach is non-invasive and is thought to stimulate and enhance self-healing mechanisms within the body to respond, release and open up to a more balanced healthy state.

Follow up consultations are generally 4-6 weeks later, to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. Further follow-ups may be required depending on each individual situation.

Who can Craniosacral Therapy help?

Because Craniosacral is a very gentle form of body work, it can be useful for all ages from newborns, to the elderly, to pregnant women who are experiencing low back and pelvic pain including sacroiliac joints. It can also help Mums and babies after birth and anyone with conditions such as migraine, headache and muskuloskeletal aches and pains.
