Weekly Hot Nutrition Tip: Summer Berries

Summer berries are not only delicious but one of the healthiest fruits to include in your diet.

Summer berries are full of antioxidants which protect cells from damage, lower inflammation and can be beneficial for heart disease and brain function. They also contain high levels of immune-enhancing Vitamin C, which can help to reduce symptoms of hayfever.

That’s not all! Berries contain high levels of fibre and a relatively small amount of sugar compared to other fruits.

Blueberries are a particularly healthy choice as their beautiful deep blue colour is related to high amounts of phytonutrients called anthocyanidins (a type of antioxidant). These are substances which can slow down the ageing process and reduce cell damage that can lead to cancer.
