Dr Helen McCarthy has worked as a Clinical Psychologist since 1989 helping people overcome or learn to manage anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other psychological conditions.
Out of this work, in response to people asking for help with weight loss, she has developed a particular interest in helping people understand why they have had trouble losing weight and helping them overcome whatever that is. For some this is about re-learning how to use their body’s natural hunger and fullness to guide when to eat and when to stop. For others it’s about looking at the deeper issues behind how they eat. Either way, it’s about changing established habits, which is always a challenge. Her involvement in Food for Wellbing is about looking at how to succeed at making whatever changes you plan to make, in such a way that you can sustain the change easily.
